Rainy Summer Days

The summer weather in florida assumes an very distinctive pattern. Sunny mornings, rainy afternoons. It rains every afternoon. And it rains almost the same time every day. And it never rains twice. Why does it rain in florida every afternoon? Why does it rain only once per day? Please read on for some answers.

On the global scale, the weather system yields ranges of climates. Ranges that are covered  permanently with ice, ranges that have four seasons, and ranges that have dry season and rainy season.

Florida, being in a semi tropical setting, is on the borderline between the four season range and the rainy season range.  In the summertime however, Florida temperatures are reaching a magnitude where enough water evaporates daily, to saturate the air, hence achiveing a rainy season for a period of time.

This vapor returns to the surface in form of rain. Once it rains, the cooling effect from it disallows further evaporation. It can not saturate the air a second time. The rain's cooling effect lasts long enough, that the cycle can only start the next day. As the cycle is getting a fresh start every day, and the daily temperature is relatively even, the cycle assumes a predictable pattern. We can observe, that every day it rains almost the same time.

The picture to the right is taken in South Florida, looking towards the mexican gulf. Notice, how the lining of the clouds are parallel to the ocean.
